Jim Woods for Skidmore was the only change as the Dons aimed to extend their unbeaten league run against a team with a reputation for giving them a hard game.

Casuals kept the ball in the air against their shorter opponents, and defended crosses well, thus it took the cleverer home players a while to settle into their usual game. The visitors were gifted the lead against the run of play when Arthur Maggs, taking a free-kick on the edge of his own area that would have been better left to the goalkeeper, passed backwards, which the lurking Abbott anticipated and beat Jim Haydock in a race to the ball. Both sides pressed hard, the Old Boys testing Haydock several times and Wimbledon getting forward often but often taking one touch too many and wasting opportunities. It took until half an hour for the home side to draw level, Freddie Gauntlett putting in a cross from the touch line that the keeper came out to punch clear, but Harry Stannard beat him to it and headed the ball into an empty net, getting a crack on his head for his troubles. The lead was only held for five minutes through Insole, but the Dons hit back again before the break, Jack Wallis’ shot bouncing in off the post with the keeper, thinking it was going wide, making no attempt to save.

Nine minutes after the interval Stannard put Wimbledon in front, and the same player twice headed inches over. Doug Munday and Vic Bird both saw Cousins leap across goal to save shots before Gauntlett put the game beyond doubt, finishing off a Munday cross that was headed on to him by Stannard. The Casuals kept on trying and in the final minute Renny headed inches over, but the Dons had done enough for another two points.
