Ill luck dogged the Dons as they crashed out of the Amateur Cup at Claremont Road. Forced to play reserve captain Alec Fuce after Jimmy Smith was taken ill just before kick-off, the team were reduced to ten men early in the second half when skipper Ken Lister was taken to hospital suffering from a dislocated shoulder. Just past the half hour mark Hendon had taken the lead when Avis’ free kick had beaten the wall and squirmed out of Parsons’ hands and over the line. Although the visitors fought on bravely and forced the Greens to defend for much of the second period, they were unable to find a way past one of the strongest defences in amateur football. Jonny Westmore’s late strike proved to be a killer blow.
