Two days later Wimbledon returned to Richmond Road for another attempt to earn the right to play Epsom in the next round. They were without Vic Bird and Jack Wallis, Harry Bull stepping in to partner Jim Smith at outside-right and Charlie Smith coming in alongside Freddie Gauntlett on the other wing. Pat Field continued to deputise for Ron Head. Kingstonian brought back Scott and Drawwater. Whing opened the scoring in the eighth minute, but Wimbledon were dominant and Charlie Smith scored a clever equaliser seven minutes later, and a minute after that Doug Munday sent in a long shot that evaded Hounslow and put them in the lead. Only sound defensive play from the home backs, with Stoker again prominent, prevented further goals before the interval. |
