The biggest Plough Lane crowd since the war saw the Dons go agonisingly close to reaching the Amateur Cup semi finals. The powerful Hendon side, who had won at Walthamstow in the previous round, travelled south of the river backed by 24 coach loads of their fans and took the lead after eight minutes. But as they had done so often against Tooting, Wimbledon fought back brilliantly and the Greens goal led a charmed life before and after Gauntlett’s equaliser. That goal came when Jack Wallis helped on Digweed’s dangerous cross from the wing and the inside forward was able to push the ball past Ivey to score.
