Tufnell Park
?

Jack Haydock was back in goal as Wimbledon took on Tufnell Park for the second week running, but the hero of the previous week, Ron Head, was again injured, meaning another call up for Pat Field in defence.

The first half gave no real indication of what was to follow, although the home superiority was obvious and their pressure resulted in a two-goal lead at the interval. Fennell brought down Jim Smith as the ball was running out and Harry Stannard easily converted the resultant penalty, then six minutes later Jack Wallis fired home past an unsighted Gibbs. There could have been several more as the Dons monopolised play, but the forwards were prone to take a touch too many in and around the area.

The second-half produced a feast of goals. Five minutes after the restart Wallis got his second and two minutes later Stannard did the same. Just three minutes later Vic Bird, whose clever ball play was a feature of the game, scored the Dons’ fifth. Tufnell Park were stung into action a shocked the home side with two goals in as many minutes. Dowding got the first with the goal of the game, a long shot from the right that left Haydock helpless, and then centre-forward Mendoza got the second. Some home fans wondered if Wimbledon were again going to lose their heads again, but Bird restarted the ball rolling with a fine goal, Stannard completed his hat-trick and Jack Wallis put the icing on the cake with the eighth. The soft ground certainly suited the Wimbledon play, and had it not been for Gibbs the score might have been doubled.
