Jack Haydock was back in goal as Wimbledon took on Tufnell Park for the second week running, but the hero of the previous week, Ron Head, was again injured, meaning another call up for Pat Field in defence. The first half gave no real indication of what was to follow, although the home superiority was obvious and their pressure resulted in a two-goal lead at the interval. Fennell brought down Jim Smith as the ball was running out and Harry Stannard easily converted the resultant penalty, then six minutes later Jack Wallis fired home past an unsighted Gibbs. There could have been several more as the Dons monopolised play, but the forwards were prone to take a touch too many in and around the area. |
