Jack Wallis returned in place of stand-in Jock Woods, else it was an unchanged side that took on another Surrey Senior League side in the F.A. Cup. Guildford, suffering from poor support in a town with professional (Southern League) competition, had applied to and received consent from the Football Association to switch the tie to Plough Lane in order to improve their share of the gate receipts. Despite the bus services to the ground not running they were rewarded with a surprisingly large crowd. From the kick-off it was apparent that there was little likelihood of the Dons losing their 100% record for the season, and had they been minded they would have had a chance of beating the club’s record competitive score, 15-2 over Polytechnic at the same stage of the 1929/30 competition. The scoring was compared to a railway timetable, Harry Stannard scoring five in the first half, in the 12th, 17th, 26th, 37th and 38th minutes, with Vic Bird adding one in the 19th minute. |
