Walthamstow Avenue ? 4 (1) - (2) 2 Wimbledon

Keen to reach the final again, Wimbledon led at half time at Green Pond Lane but were overrun in the second period when the powerful Avenue outfit took charge. Stannard and Smith had combined well for the first before England amateur international Jim Lewis equalised only for the Dons winger to restore the lead by half time. If the visitors had matched the As for 45 minutes, the second period was a different story as inside Derek Saunders, who with Lewis was to go on and play in Chelsea’s 1955 championship winning side, took charge. A fortunate goal from Ken Camis, coming as a result of a defensive mix up, levelled the scores once again before Lewis and Camis went onto add further strikes to knock the holders out. |
