The prolific Gauntlett and Stannard were on target once again as the Dons completed a league double over Oxford at the White House ground. Despite a somewhat farcical lead up to the game - a coach accident that delayed the teams arrival until just moments before the scheduled kick off time and the independently travelling Lister not coming onto the field of play until five minutes had elapsed - the visitors were quickly into their stride and were two goals up at the break. Wimbledon were indebted to some fine saves from Arthur Parsons at the start of the second half but even he could not prevent Mansell pulling one back from the spot. Gradually the tide turned and when Gauntlett was denied his hat trick, after his shot hit the bar, Stannard was on hand to capitalise on the rebound. |
