With a record 11,000 fans inside Sandy Lane creating a cracking atmosphere, the Dons did well to battle back from going two down to earn a replay. Two Bob Parker strikes gave the Terrors a fully deserved advantage only for Freddie Gauntlett to reduce the arrears at the break when he hit the bar at the end of a brilliant passing move before calmly netting the rebound. It spurred the visitors to dominate proceedings after the interval but once Stannard had equalised both teams tired meaning that neither side was able to force a winner. Malcolm Robbins, making his debut, had to endure some tough tackling as the local derby threatened to spill over the in the second period.
